Damp proofing in Saltdean

Saltdean is largely a 1930s and interwar suburb, known for its Art Deco landmarks and rows of period semis and bungalows set on the cliffs east of Brighton. The housing is newer than central Brighton’s, but the exposed clifftop position brings its own damp problems.

What the clifftop does

That’s a ventilation fix, not damp-proofing.

Where these homes do have rising damp, it’s usually a bridged or failed early damp-proof course rather than no course at all, which can make it easy to miss without a proper inspection. Pebbledash and render that hold moisture against the wall are a frequent factor here.
